A Better Understanding Of Hair Loss

Each day thousands of people worldwide scour the internet and online pharmacies for a more effective treatment for hair loss.  The Internet is filled with websites offering quick cures, home remedies  and recommended treatments yet millions of people worldwide are still forced to suffer in silence and search on.  The reason for this failure to find a proper treatment for hair growth is not because these remedies and recommendations are ineffective.  They fail because of a lack of understanding about hair loss, its causes and how to properly encourage hair growth.

The most common form of baldness is a progressive hair thinning condition called androgenic alopecia or 'male pattern baldness' that occurs in adult men.

The Cause Behind Excessive Hair Loss

There are many reasons behind excessive hair loss and getting to the root cause of the problem will help you identify the proper treatment to undertake.

A prolonged period of illness or a major surgery episode could spark of excessive hair loss.  In this instance, the loss of hair could be creditted to the medication that is taken or the stress due to the illness or operation.

Infections, especially fungal infections, can cause excessive hair loss and this can even be seen in children.  Treatment with anti-fungal medication will easily get rid of the fungas and continue normal hair growth.

Generally, medication that is know to cause hair loss include anticoagulants (blood thinning medication), gout medication, chemotherapy, excessive Vitamin A consumption, birth control pills and anti-depressants.  Hair loss that is caused by medication generally stops when one has stopped taking the medication.

Hormonal changes will also cause hair loss, especially when it involves the thyroid glands.  Hair loss in this case is generally under control when one takes up treatment for their thyroid problem.  Hair loss can also occur due to imbalance of androgens and estrogens.  In this case, the hair loss is kept in check once medication is taken to correct the imbalance hormones.

Women may at times experience hair loss during pregnancy especially after the 3rd month.  This is also due to imbalanced hormones and will be stabilzed once the nody balances back the hormone levels or after child birth.

Finally, one cannot rule out heredity as a factor for baldness.  And this itself is the major cause of hair loss these days.
